How to Contact the Government After Receiving an RFP

Randy Glantz, enexdi proposal specialist, recently offered a few best practice steps conduct when you first receive an RFP. Now, he shares tips on contacting the government after reviewing the RFP:

  • If you have questions or would like clarification about anything in the RFP, written questions can usually be submitted to the contracting officer.
  • Most RFP’s specify a date by which questions are due. Be sure you submit your questions by the due date to make sure they are considered.
  • When drafting your questions, think strategically about which ones are submitted—the government’s response to questions are distributed to all bidders, usually through a written amendment to the RFP. Although your company will not be identified, per se, the way questions are worded can provide information to your competitors about your bidding strategy.
  • If you call the contracting officer for information, be aware that verbal information given to you is not binding—it must be in writing.
